Why Commerce?

Financial Incentives

The Commerce Economic Development Corporation, along with the City staff and Council, partner effectively to recruit new industries and assist in retention and expansion of existing companies. Our success is based on creative solutions for meeting the company's needs, developing an aggressive, customized incentive package, and making the commitment to a long term relationship with industries. That partnership does not stop after the site location announcement and groundbreaking; it is strengthened over time to ensure companies are successful...more about incentives

Access to Rail Services

The Northeast Texas Rural Rail Transportation District (NETEX) was created in 1994 to preserve rail service by the County Commissioners' Courts in Hunt, Hopkins, Franklin and Titus counties. Collin County joined the Rail Rail RoadDistrict in July 2005.  NETEX is currently the only successful operating Rail District in the state.

Blacklands Railroad, the shortline operator, can interchange with major class one railroads at both ends of the line. And, as important, Blacklands offers customized service seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Local transloading is also available.

Blacklands provides connections to Union Pacific, Kansas City Sourthern and Dallas Garland and Northeastern (Rail America) Railroads.

Educational Opportunities

Texas A&M University-Commerce, as well as Paris Junior College (PJC), offer courses which can conveniently assist your businesses' employees in continuing their education or refreshing their skills. Additionally, the 44 college and university campuses in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex are a reasonable drive from Commerce.

Both PJC and Texas State Technical College in Waco are also available to provide customized training as needed.

Educated Workforce

In addition to the labor force available from the general population, local businesses are not in short-supply of an educated workforce as a result of having a local University from which to draw. Texas A&M University-Commerce students and spouses provide an excellent source of employees for both full and part time employment, as well as shift work.
